Birthday Self Portraits

Lessons learned during my 21st year: "Sometimes we need to stop analyzing the past, stop planning the future, stop figuring out precisely how we feel, stop deciding exactly what we want, and just see what happens."

On to being 22! My birthday was on Monday and this year it fell on the date of a holiday. I decided to go on a bike ride in the city (gosh, was my bike DUSTY), eat my favorite foods and enjoy the company of my loved ones. Pretty great day. ❤

My birthday portraits mean more to me each year I do them. As embarrassing it is too look back at photos capturing my teenage years (gah!), the portraits give me perspective at where I was and where I am now and the direction I want to head in the coming year. They are subtle reminders of my style, my preferences and how I wanted to present myself at that age. One day I hope to be old and grey and have a box of these portraits to share with any kid who doesn't believe I was once young too.

Do you have any birthday traditions?

The name "sojoo" roots from "this is so Joany". Somehow in my convoluted thoughts, the name makes sense. On this blog you will find a collection of photos from my every day life. Hope you enjoy and stay for a little while.
